Frequently asked questions

Everything we get asked most, answered plainly. If your question is not here, ask us — you will get a reply from someone who knows the piece and the specification it was built to.

About EFFIMEL

Who actually makes your lighting?

Our partner workshops do, and they build to our drawings. EFFIMEL is a lighting label that sells direct: we write the specification for every piece — dimensions, materials, metal gauge, glass, finish and wiring — place it with workshops we have worked with for years, and ship the result to you factory-direct under our own name.

That is why we can quote a custom size, tell you the gauge of the brass, or order you a single replacement socket. Read more on Our Story.

Why are you less expensive than comparable brands?

Because of what we do not have to pay for. We sell online and buy direct from the workshops that build our pieces — there is no showroom floor, no distributor tier and no retail chain to fund. A fixture built to this standard costs less here than the same thing does under a department-store label.

Do you have a showroom?

Not a retail one — keeping that cost out of the price is part of the point. For designers and trade projects we can arrange samples, finish swatches and, on larger specifications, a single sample piece.

Can I see a finish before I commit?

Yes. We can send physical finish swatches for most metals. Ask us and tell us which finishes you are choosing between.

02

Product & materials

What are your pieces made from?

Hand-blown and hand-cut crystal glass, alabaster, forged iron, cast and solid brass, ceramic, rattan and vellum — depending on the design. The exact materials for each piece are listed under Specifications on its product page.

Nothing in our range is plastic with a metallic coating.

Do your lights meet U.S. electrical standards?

Yes. Fixtures are wired for 110–120V and are UL/ETL listed where applicable. Damp-rated options are available for bathrooms and covered outdoor spaces — check the Environment Suitability line in the specifications.

Are bulbs included, and are they dimmable?

It varies by design; the product page states it under Product Details. Most of our fixtures are dimmer-compatible — integrated LED pieces list their required dimmer type in the specifications.

How do I choose the right size?

Add your room's length and width in feet for a good chandelier diameter in inches; over a dining table, keep the fixture about half to two-thirds the table width. Our Size Guide covers every room, and if nothing fits we can have the size you need built.

03

Ordering, shipping & delivery

Are duties and taxes included?

Yes. Import duties and tariffs are paid by us before your piece ships, and U.S. shipping is free. Nothing is collected at your door. Sales tax, where it applies, is shown at checkout.

How long does delivery take?

Most U.S. orders arrive within one to three weeks. Pieces are built and finished to order rather than pulled off a warehouse pallet, so allow a little longer than mass-market retail. Full timeline in our Shipping policy.

How will a large chandelier be delivered?

Oversized pieces travel crated by freight and the carrier calls you to book a window. White-glove delivery into the room is available on request — tell us before you order.

Do you ship outside the United States?

Our published pricing covers the U.S., but we fulfil international and project orders case by case, including 220–240V builds. Send us the destination and we will quote it.

04

Installation

Do I need an electrician?

Yes. Our fixtures are hardwired and should be installed by a licensed electrician — both for safety and because improper installation is one of the few things the warranty does not cover.

Can it be hung from a sloped or vaulted ceiling?

Many designs can, with the right canopy. Some cannot — the product page says so where that is the case. If you have a sloped ceiling, tell us and we will confirm or supply the correct canopy.

Can the chain or rod be shortened or lengthened?

Chains can generally be shortened on site by your electrician. For extra length, or for stairwell drops, we supply longer chain or additional rod sections — just ask before you order.

How heavy are they, and what support do they need?

Weight is listed in the specifications on each product page. Fixtures over 50 lbs cannot hang from a standard outlet box alone and need bracing above the ceiling. Share the weight with your electrician before installation day.

05

Custom, trade, returns & warranty

Can I get a custom size, finish or glass?

Yes — this is the advantage of specifying our own pieces rather than buying them finished from a catalogue. Size, finish, glass, socket count, drop length, voltage and damp rating can all be changed. See Custom Design for the process.

Do you work with interior designers and hospitality projects?

Regularly. We can supply drawings for your documentation, match finishes across a scheme, have matched sets built in a single finish batch, and hold delivery to a project schedule. Trade terms are available — get in touch.

What is your return policy?

Thirty days from delivery on unused pieces in their original packaging, for a refund or exchange. Custom pieces are excluded once production begins. Full detail in our Refund policy.

What does the lifetime warranty actually cover?

Defects in materials and workmanship, for as long as you own the piece. Because we keep the drawing and stay with the workshop that built your fixture, most claims are settled by sending you the part rather than taking the fixture down. See Lifetime Warranty.

Still stuck? Send us the room dimensions, ceiling height and a photo of the space. We will tell you what will actually work in it — even if the answer is a piece we do not sell.

Ask us anything

You will get an answer from someone who knows the fixture and its specification, not a script. Most messages are answered within one business day.
