Yes, you can. The working rule electricians describe is that a fixture within roughly 3 ft horizontally and 8 ft above the tub rim or shower threshold should be at least damp-rated, and wet-rated if water can reach it directly. Outside that zone a standard interior fixture is normally acceptable.
Fixtures inside that zone are also generally expected to be GFCI-protected. The exact boundaries are set by local electrical code, so treat this as orientation and have a licensed electrician confirm it.
Two things get confused here: that everything in a bathroom must be wet-rated, and that damp and wet are marketing words. Neither is true. Both describe a specific area of the room.
What the three ratings mean

The zone, drawn
The measurement starts at the highest normal water line — the tub rim or the shower curb — not at the floor.

They do not replace your local electrical code, which governs the installation and may differ. Where a chandelier actually works
The good position is over a freestanding tub set away from the wall, or centered in a room tall enough that the fixture is nowhere near the shower. Both usually fall inside the zone by height alone, so a damp rating is the practical floor.
Two constraints matter more than expected. Head clearance: nobody should stand up in the tub into a chandelier. And cleaning: a bathroom leaves a film on everything, so an open fixture with few parts stays presentable far longer.

Put light beside the mirror, not only above it
Sconces flanking the mirror light a face evenly. A single fixture above drops shadows under the nose, chin and eyes — the most common vanity complaint.
Brightness and color temperature
In a bathroom around 8 ft × 6 ft, plan roughly 1,500–2,000 lumens at the vanity and a similar amount in the shower area. On color, 3000K–3500K suits most people; some lighting professionals go to 4000K. Above 3500K it starts reading clinical, so put it on a dimmer.
